The Waddin Ode

This is a short poem written in celebration and commemoration of the Marriage of my good friends Mr and Mrs McDowall on Saturday the 6th of September 2008 at Lake Garda in Italy.

Now gather friens and listen well,
For I’ve a bonny tale to tell
O’ Clare & John the wadded pair,
Who make a couple braw and fair.

In Glesca toon the twain did meet,
An ken it was so very sweet,
That baith in love were quick to fall,
To the delight of one and all.

Said He to She ‘away we’ll fly’
Tae distant Italy, the knot tae tie,
Wie friens and family old and new,
Tae see us hold our pledges true.

Says She tae He ‘Of course we’ll go’,
Myself in my wedding dress like snow,
To stand by Garda’s waters blue,
And join together me and you.

And now alas my tale is done,
As our bonny pair ore in the sun,
Wie plans afoot for times ahead,
And a future long and happy wed.

Though I can see the future not,
I know the strands of fate drew taut,
The day you two were drawn by chance,
Into your handsome romance.
